Limited edition. My only concern is will the Limited edition game case have the box art that was just release or will it ONLY be a tin box. Im personally a fan of the box art and really want it on the game case.

My guess is that it will be "engraved" in the back, more or less like was the case with H2's Limited Edition.
Which would be cool.

Or perhaps the second disk (because the case looks as if there can be more than 1 disk case inside) will have it.

Either way: as cool as the box art is, I'm not going to pass on the LE just so I can have that cool picture on my box.

Limited Edition.

Not only because I own every Limited Edition (except for H3, got the Legendary Edition of that one) from every Halo game since H2. But also because I like its features, and just love the fact that I can pay for my mappacks in advance and don't have to worry about having enough MSP to buy them seperately.

Ah, this is a great day.

First that awesome Limited Edition (which will be pre ordered this week I guess, as soon as I get the chance at least), and now some seconds of new gameplay. Looks beautiful, now just waiting on some more campaign stuff and some actual multiplayer action. Because I think we're ready for a bit more than 2 dudes standing in front of each other shooting...

There really isnt a wat 343i van make some people here like the game is there?
They could give all you complainers a free copy and you'd still whine and complain about how it 'sucks so bad'...

Sure, I'd loved to see some more physical content as well. Like they did with Halseys Journal for instance, but this package is great none the less.

Free map packs?
Free FuD DVD?
Free I game stuff?
Free Avatar stuff?

thanks 343i!
Because, quite frankly, there has only been 1 Legendary Edition truely worth the money...that of H3. Reach' didn't offer that much more interesting things for the extra money, and now with H4 we basically get a great package.

Simply because it basically gives us everything you'd digitally want of a limited edition

It might be all kinds of reasons really, apart from obvious artistic ones.

For instance:
- Age (the older they get the scalier)
- Gender (in most species males are the fighting party, with females lacking that fighting spirit...so it would make sense for male Grunts to be more heavily armored)
- Homeworld (differences in gravity, environment etc etc can all be of influence. Just like said in the Update: many Earth species have subspecies which differ slightly from their "norm" which also applies to the physical differences between Brute clans for instance)
- Selective evolution (much like how certain Jackals grow to being Skirmishers, some Grunts who've seen a lot of action might develop more body armor than others)
- Bio Engineering (Covenant Remnants might want to be less vulnerable and try to use biogenetic modification on Grunts to make the bulk of their army better than before)

And I'd say it would be a combination of some factors I stated above. Most notably the last 3.

Topic: Face Each Other and "HOLD X" To SWAP Weapons.   Go to last post

I actually like this idea.
But with the lack of communication going on it might be a better idea to have an "acknowledge" button instead of having to both hold X.

So the idea would then be:
1: Player initiating trade holds X.
2: Weapon Swap request pops up on screen recipient.
3: Recipient of message presses Up on D Pad (for instance).
4: Weapons get swapped.

This would also mean you're less likely to accidentally press X at that moment (if your teammate isn't facing you and you didn't see him wanting to trade) and suddenly losing your weapon.
Acknowledging the trade means you get notified of the trade being requested, and you have to press a button you don't use normally = less chance of accidents.

I doubt a lot of people would use it, but it would be a welcome element none the less.

I hope that by more mature they mean they'll be taking more notice of the style shown in the books (and the live action shorts).

Less overly colorful (H3 was TOO bright and shiny like a kid got a box of crayons and had to color each asset, but a game like H2 (which happens to be fairly mature) does it right).
A tad more gory (not Gears of War guts flying all over the place...but Brutes should be as brutal as in the books for instance).
More focus on telling a complicated story (again: H2 did this well)
Less overly comedic (no more Grunts and Marines cracking smart -Yoink!- jokes CONSTANTLY...really: balance that a bit more).

Topic: Commendations: Yay or Nay?   Go to last post
Posted: Sunday, May 13, 2012 2:16:58 AM(UTC)
Yes.

But reworked.

The concept of Commendations is good. It sets goals for people to reach, which should result in more replay value for the game.
But the execution of the concept was too simple. Every Commendation came down to "get x amount of kills with weapon/vehicle Y". So in the long run they don't challenge people that much.
But they should return. Just in a different way.

Make 2 classes of Commendations:
- Goal Commendations
- Specialization Commendations

Goal Commendations
The ones we know from Reach. A fixed set of 3-4 tier Commendations with simple "get x amount of kills" goals. But now also include more Objective based goals. After all: there are far too few people actually playing Objective, or even going for the Objective. Having Commendations reward people for stealing X amounts of flags, returning 500 of them, getting a total time of 15 minutes in a Hill etc, would probably give more incentive to actually try and get those Objectives done.
Tie these to the ranking system, and set the goals so that you won't get these ranking bonusses very frequently (so that their impact on leveling is not that big)

Specialization Commendations
And then I would propose a new type of Commendations.
Commendations tied to your playing style, which obviously is going to be more important in Halo 4.
Where Goal Commendations should be tied to the ranking system (giving people small bonusses), Performance Commendations should be tied to the Armory. Giving people specific sets of Armor, or a specialized Modification that you can't get out of the Armory simply by leveling up.

Think of the system in this way: Let's assume you are a player that likes to use the Sniper a lot. There would be a Commendation "tree" that has Sniper specific performance goals to reach. Each tier would reward you with a small (mostly cosmetic) bonus. So lets say the Commendations here would be:
Tier 1: "Get 150 Headshots with the Sniper" = ODST Romeo's Shoulder plate (which would have something like slightly decreased bloom)
Tier 2: "Destroy 50 vehicles with a Sniper" = Each clip hold 1 extra bullet
Tier 3: "Get 25 Sniper double kills (killing 2 people with 1 bullet)" = Sniper Visor Enhancement (Part on top of helmet, which would probably allow for slightly increased zoom)
Tier 4: "Get a total of 500 kills with a Sniper" = Spartan Point bonus + New Armory items in 2-3 categories.

And a similar system could be applied to: Automatic weapons, Pistols, Close Quarters, Vehicles, Heavy Weapons, Marksman Weapons (BR/DMR).
Each tier-tree would give people some minor bonusses that wouldn't be standard in the Armory.

Think of it as how in Battlefield you unlock new weapons and new attachements etc by playing a lot as a certain class. Commendations could act similar on a more subtle note (not by giving people actual weapons).

Not only would this allow for more incentive to play in a specific way, or to make Armory more dynamic. It also means the whole concept of Commendations is more tied into the gameplay mechanics and not a system that is there, but you never really notice that much. It would be more of a rewarding system instead of a grinding system.
Maybe Commendations should even have temporary ones, more or less merging Challenges into the system as well (rewarding you with special badges or whatever to show off).

It would be great if the jetpack would be like a thruster that creates an extra jump for you...

Nevertheless, something noteworthy to point out is that most reach maps were remakes, and those maps weren't made for aa's.

Another thing... I'm already seeing people complaining about having sprint together with other aa's. Let me remind you that it's been said countless times how much 343i is investing its time in balancing these features out. We know for a fact that while getting shot when sprinting, we get punished and slowed down as a result - how is that not balanced?

And even if these things do turn out to be unbalanced after launch, there's still TU's to look forward to.

It's funny how no one has realised that there is no such thing as designing a map around armor abilities. Every single remade map works just fine with every other armor ability. It is only jetpack that breaks the maps.

How do you design a map with armor lock in mind?
How do you design a map with hologram in mind?

All of Reach's armor abilities besides jetpack, including sprint, work just fine on all maps.

Not entirely true.
Armor Lock, Hologram, Invisibility, those AA's aren't designed to somehow enhance or modify the actual movement of a player (well, stopping him at most from moving with AL).
And although maps should never be build specifically for a certain AA, they should be made with movement enhancing AA's in mind.
Why is Infection lame? Because you have Evade, which works like crap because of all the bumps which send you over the edges of maps = bad.
On the opposite side: with Sprint in a game, you don't design maps that have all kinds of little walls, odd corners, bumps etc etc. You want players to effectively use Sprint, and move fluently through the map.

Same goes for Jetpack. Maps need to be more vertical than they were before for instance. Maps shouldn't have little "accidental" corners way up that happen to be reachable by Jetpack for campers.

So while a map never is designed to specifically make a single kind of AA work, developers really do (have to) keep in mind the way AA's work and how a map should be made optimal for them.

OR....maps just need to be designed more with Jetpack in mind...

Really, the answer to the Jetpack "problems" truely is as simple as that.

but then the jet pack becomes over powered on those maps compared to the other abilities. and worse is that they would need to make completely new maps to fix it.
i do not want another reach.

No.
Just read what I said above.
Also: Jetpack never really is that "overpowered"...after all: it still keeps you hanging up there in the air, visible to everybody with very limited movement freedom...

Bottom line is:
343i shouldn't make maps for any specific AA. 343i should make maps with every AA in mind, so that all function as meant to.

No.

Also:
- not related to Halo.
- implying that liking CoD = somehow tied to (dis)liking Halo 4 = ignorant
- wrong forum.
- try a bit harder with your spelling next time
