The reason Microsoft doesn't care about Halo Wars and is GOING to do nothing is because the community is too small. The select Niche of people that actually post in these forums represent a fraction of the percentage of the players online regularly.
Currently, on average - I see 5k people online each day. We have less than 10k posts in this forum... So realistically, we represent each person posting less than twice.
We need LazyFrog to come back to the 343 forums if we want anything to get done. If we want to realistically get a push for the game to be made - we need more people pushing.
Learn from the Arab Spring! You need to scream it loud enough with enough people to get change. We want this game, now we need to scream for it to get it done.

they don't do something because they need to re-hire Ensemble Studios all over again, and they need to assess things like profit, sales, popularity, fan base, etc. Also, if they do a rush job, it will be stupid anyways. RTS games take time to make, and first they have to be willing to invest, and know WHEN to invest.

Halo Wars 2 wouldn't hurt for next gen exclusive. They need more of them and the Halo franchise brings people to the plate every time!

We need Halo 2 style epic build up. Halo Wars 2 I think would do that - but not on the scale of Halo 2... Simply because the number of people still aren't even in comparison to the regular fan base.

People play FPS - RTS takes back seat... Especially with such a small community.

We need more people actively participating in conversations. We need to build a hype. We need to actually feel heard. We need ROBOT!!!

I agree. I also think they know the 720 will be able to handle an RTS more, so they can actually put more on the new disk type (please be blu-ray) and it will run smoother, but we do need more support.

I personally have given up on Halo Wars. Mostly because I got a new PC and Starcraft2 is just far superior, not because of the lack of population or support from Microsoft.

First, I think if you put the release dates of the games next to their post count, it will add some perspective.

Secondly, if you add all the post from the old HaloWars.com site (this was not always the forum for Halo Wars), you would be surprised which game ends up in first.

LazyFrog and Co., though great players, represent a tiny, tiny fraction of the Halo Wars community, and wouldn't bolster the numbers here enough to make anyone even notice.

"Microsoft doesnt care because there are too few players."

This is a logical statement, as is:

"There are so few players, because Microsoft doesn't care"

I am more inclined to believe the second statement because Microsoft threatened to kill stat tracking (this was probably the biggest blow to the population), and messed up several Title Updates (second biggest blow).
The inactivity of Microsoft was also apparent in their dealing with boosters. People would supply plenty of evidence that couldnt be interpreted any other way than boosting, and some people even said "HEY MICROSOFT, I AM BOOSTING", but still no action.

Microsoft abandoned Halo Wars before the fans did. Microsoft made some stupid moves and statements that leave the fan base with no trust.

What do you want them to do? At this point in time, there isn't much that can be "fixed" in this game. Balancing an RTS is a very difficult thing to do, and 343 really doesn't have much, or any, experience with RTS's.

I seriously doubt that microsoft would simply drop Halo Wars because of its population. Microsoft would LOVE to have more games that can hold a 10k population after 3 years.

I would love to see Halo Wars on a Mobile Phone or a portable gaming system like a PSP or 3DS. It's a stretch I know but it would be nice to have a portable Halo.

There is soooo much they could do.

1. Do something to stimulate the community.
a. Map Pack
b. gametype
c. something
2. Drop prices to stimulate growth
a. DLC
b. Online version
3. Retail - Platinum version with small media campaign
3. HALO WARS 2
a. Drop a bread crumb
b. Clip
c. Bring Robot/Ensemble old members together - whoever was the visionary for Halo Wars and have them take a million and create a vertical slice for the game.
d. Push forward with creating the game!
4. Work with the community
a. Highlight Halo Wars in the news feed more often
b. Incorporate key memebers of Halo Wars community and showcase them and what they've done to help grow it.
c. Do something to help make a positive growth pattern for their current game to turn more people back onto it.
d. Re-vamp stat tracking for this game - make HaloWars.com be on 343

Just to name a few small things...

Frank O'Connor said Halo Wars was more successful than they thought it would be, and Halo Wars is also the most successful console rts in history. It still even remains the most played console rts too. That is enough reason for a Halo Wars 2.

That is not enough of a reason...

They want to make the most money possible... The most bang for your buck...

Making a blockbuster FPS is more valuable than a RTS.

That is a reason for not making another RTS... We will see though.

So "supporting" a game means milking it for every dollar they can get?

If making a "Halo Wars 2" that we, the community, would accept was possible, I'm sure it would be in production. Ensemble is no more. They did a wonderful job with Wars, but they are no more. I doubt any other company could make a true sequel to the game.

Agreed.
I think it's a combination of several things.

Firstly the mixed reception Wars got (esspecially from the camp of people who somehow bought the game expecting it to be either a deep RTS or even to be a FPS....like, seriously?)

Secondly sales. I mean, even if it did sell quite good for a console RTS, Halo Wars only sold about 2 million copies. And quite frankly, if you've dismantled the company responsible for the game and now don't have any in house RTS devs anymore, that number is a bit too much of a gamble to assemble a new team, invest millions into new technology and recourses and hope it sells 2 million again.

Thirdly: it has always been intended to be a little side step for the series. No matter how much we ask for it, I bet MS never even considered a sequel as it was always meant to be a one time tribute to the roots of Halo.

Does that mean we will never see a Halo Wars 2? Unlikely. Demand is actually quite high, and the game gets appreciated a lot more these days than it was 2 years ago. And with Kinect, the possibilities of RTS games on consoles have grown immensely (being able to multitask through a hybrid voice-controller scheme for instance, would mean being able to bring more depth to Halo Wars 2). Problem is: Kinect isn't standard for any Xbox, so if MS were to bet on a hybrid controlled HW2 (playable with either controller or Kinect + controller) chances are sales won't even reach 2 million.

Our best chance would be on the next console, after 343i has released Halo 4 and can turn their attention to other projects.
Really, it's not that MS or 343i don't care about Halo Wars...it's just that the game never was a main focus for any of those parties...

I mean with the PSVita coming out it could be possible. Bungie teamed up with the PS3 so why couldn't 343.

343 did not make Halowars for one thing, Ensemble did and they are no longer around.

I would also prefer 343 to concentrate on making Halo 4.....

Ehm...let's see....because Halo is Microsofts flagship title? Giving even a mobile Halo Wars to a Sony handheld isn't a smart move and also very unlikely as flagship titles stay exclusive. We don't see Sony bringing the PSP version of Killzone to Windows Phone or iPad as well now do we?
Simply not going to happen.

But if MS wants Windows Mobile (with its Live support) to be something special, they could definately release a simple mobile version of the game for WM7.5 or WM8 in the future.

I don't think they forgot about us. I believe Halo Wars 2 will be made in between Halo 4 and 5.

I hope so man... but they forgot about us for the time being... There has been nothing done for the community since they screwed it up for a while, threatened to kill stats, and caused a lot of people to leave. We need something and want something to help grow. They owe it to us for keeping this game alive and doing word of mouth to buy more copies and get map packs.

I know I hands down have gotten at least 10 people to go out and buy it new and over 30+ people to buy the map pack AND the gametype expansions....

They owe it to us to support halo wars with something as simple as a map pack... Or an editor to make some maps and submit it to them... to run through CERT and get it online.

I have ideas for some maps already... Just need to be built - tested and shoved on the marketplace.

huh?

Did you just come up with a date - or did 343 do something that nobody even heard about?
