If you could go back to 2009, go to bungie studios, what would you say to them a year before they released their game?

This is going to be a interesting thread.
I would tell them to follow the story of the novel or something similar to it.

I would tell them that whatever they are thinking, they are the massive AAA game making company with the best in the business all with degrees. They should do what they think they should do over highschool kids who like to be stuck in the past.

This.

I really hope 343i's isn't afraid to innovate and get creative.

I hope they bring out the big guns and blow us all away with how they handle the franchise. New weapons/enemies. Brand new gameplay mechanics that completely change how we view the game.

That's being idealistic, because 343i's WILL basically give us hardly anything new, but damnit I can hope.

Hmmm.......

<sarcasm> Don't upgrade Forge </sarcasm>

Forge 2.0 was the only thing they did right.

Now really, I would say (this wouldn't stop it from bombing, but it would have bombed less) "tell 343 to listen to the community when you sell them Halo. Don't let them become an selfish greedy corporate ATM like the rest of Microsoft."

Also, take out armor abilities.

I would tell them not to allow a few thousand vocal holdouts to stifle the advancements Reach pushed into the FPS genre. If they did not care for where you as the developer was taking your game, then let them go and dont spend any time apologizing for your accomplishment. Press forward and have faith in yourself, after all, you created one of the, if not the most important FPS of all time. Bravo and thank you, that is what I would say then, and it is what I would say now.

"You guys are great, but you are not the omnipotent and omniscient gods of the universe. You've succeeded for too long, you are making major changes to the formula that has allowed you to succeed, and due to the deal with Micro$oft, you're not going to be able to effectively maintain Reach should anything go wrong. You are taking massive, massive risks, with literally no chance of correcting any mistakes should they be made. If you care at all about maintaining your reputation and fanbase, then for Darwin's sake, make sure every single thing that you change is configurable without a Title Update -- preferably by the end user!"

Genius. Then again, considering they went from Xbox exclusive to Smartphone and PS3, I am not sure how much they still cared for their fan base at the time.

From a competitive standpoint, we'd have a long talk.
From a casual standpoint, I wouldn't stop them from doing a thing.

If I could go back to 2009, I don't think I'd be spending time going to Bungie Studios.

I would have spent every waking moment with my mom, she passed away in September of 2010, so 1 more year, wow, that'd be nice.

Tell them to ignore the Reach fanboys, and not kill the Halo franchise with Reach.

Actually there is one other thing I forgot, I would tell them to release more games, one with the traditional mechanics before Reach would have started to develop a better footing in the top 20 live games and provided fans looking for that classic Halo feel a new home besides Halo 3. As well as expanding the franchise with what may not be "competitive" settings but has alot of playability in it and apparently appeal. How many games do what Reach has done and continues to do?

NOTHING. Because I loved Reach. I love all the Halo games because they are all fun. I am glad Bungie didn't listen to "hardcore" (i laugh at that term) "competitive" nostalgic people like yourself who hates Reach. If every game was made the same, it would cease to be fun. Which is why COD has died because the lack of variety of the games. Remember its Halo Combat EVOLVED. Every Halo game should feel more evolved and different from the previous installments to cease from becoming stale. Want a game that doesn't change, with super fast kill times, and horrible trash talking community, play Fail of Duty and let Halo become more then Halo 2.5 :)/
